SEQUENCE OF ERUPTION OF MILK TEETH AND PERMANENT TEETH

Parents usually worry if children don’t get their milk teeth (primary teeth) or permanent teeth within a stipulated span of time. So now leave all your worries by understanding the sequence in which milk teeth and permanent teeth erupt.

 MILK TEETH /PRIMARY TEETH-

Milk teeth are 20 in number. 10 in the upper jaw and 10 in the lower jaw. In milk teeth premolars are absent.

Upper jaw

       

Central incisor           8 – 12 months

                                             Lateral incisor              9 – 13 months

                                             canine                             16 – 22 months

                                             1st molar                        13 to 19 months

                                             2nd molar                       25 – 33 months

                                                                 Lower jaw

                                              Central incisor               6 – 10 months

                                              Lateral incisor               10 – 16 months

                                              Canine                              17 -23 months

                                              1st molar                          14 – 18 months

                                              2nd molar                         23 – 31 months

However, in the eruption, variations can occur in the eruption age. Sometimes teeth erupt too early and sometimes too late so there is nothing to worry about.  If you feel that a milk tooth has fallen a long time ago and permanent teeth have not erupted then you can visit your dentist Your dentist will take an x-ray to check if there is a permanent tooth present inside the jaw bone.

 PERMANENT TEETH

Milk teeth are 32 in number. 16 in the upper jaw and 16 in the lower jaw.

                               1st premolar             10 - 11 yrs

                               3rd molar                    17 – 21 yrs

                                                LOWER JAW

                               Central incisor         6 – 7 yrs

                               Lateral incisor          7 – 8 yrs
